Bosun's Table
About This Spot
Stepping into Bosun's Table is like finding a familiar corner tucked away on a breezy Scottish afternoon. This spot on Irvine Road feels quietly inviting, with a gentle hum that blends the soft clink of coffee cups and the murmur of friendly conversations. It’s a place where time seems to slow just enough to savor both company and atmosphere without rushing.
The bistro, café, and coffee shop meld seamlessly here, creating a versatile space that suits anyone craving a moment of comfort. Whether you’re sinking into a well-made coffee that carries the warmth of a shared smile or settling outside to watch the day unfold, there’s a calmness that invites lingering. The outdoor seating area expands with the seasons, offering a simple pleasure for those who come to enjoy the nearby sea breeze and the natural stroll through the park by the Pencil Tower.
Within these walls, the food feels like an honest expression of local flavor—unpretentious yet thoughtfully prepared. You might arrive enticed by the generous portions and find yourself delighting in homemade cakes that seem almost too generous to finish, or warming up with a full Scottish breakfast served with care and a sense of tradition. The touches of local character shine through in everything, from the hearty scampi to the lovingly crafted apple pie with cream, each dish extending the same warmth you find in the room.
What makes Bosun’s Table resonate isn’t just its menu but the human moments threaded throughout the experience—the attentive service that feels genuine, the dog-friendly welcome that opens the door to all kinds of visitors, and a pace that honors the ease of a weekend morning or a spontaneous stop on a seaside walk. Here, the food and the space blend into a place you return to for those quietly joyful moments, where the big cakes and better coffee are merely the beginning of what makes the visit worthwhile.

Dearie me what a treat to discover this place. I have never seen cakes so big! The atmosphere was extremely homely and friendly. A very helpful young lady serving. The coffee was great. But the cakes, oh the cakes…

A great place to have a snack and sit outside, in summer! Nearby parking and a good walk to Largs alongside the sea through the park by the Pencil tower.

What a huge difference since it's been taken over. Food is amazing and the staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. We arrived and were attended to straight away. It was a glorious day so we sat in the outdoor seating area which is now much bigger. The coffee here is the best I've ever had. I'm looking forward to trying one of the new takeaway pizzas and enjoying an ice cream from the new machine.

17th June 2024. We had a fantastic meal..lovely soup..excellent fish and a perfect full Scottish breakfast. All cooked to perfection by chef... James I think his name was as didn't meet him personally Food piping hot and generous portions .Great service and extremely friendly staff. Dog friendly which is great... Would highly recommend Bosuns Table to anyone on all we experienced.

Stopped on our first visit to Largs to grab a takeaway Food was great! Would of been 5 stars for the fish goujons alone! But no cutlery for the salad and goujons should always come with tartare sauce Great and will stop by again

During a late Summer outing on historic Routemaster 2121, owned by Brian Turner of Bridge if Weir and driven by Routemaster enthusiast and Inverclyde resident Jim McNeal, we called into the Bosun's Table for a light lunch. The staff were very pleasant and efficient at taking the order and delivering hot food quickly. We sat in the sunny courtyard and enjoyed the company of friends who had come from Reading on a round Scotland road trip. We travelled through North Ayrshire returning by the country roads of Renfrewshire and Inverclyde back to Greenock.
